Windows Cannot Read The Product Key Setting

A Windows product key is a 25-character code used to activate Windows. Depending on how you got your copy of Windows 10, you'll need either a 25-character product key or a digital license to activate it. A digital license (called a digital entitlement in Windows 10, Version 1511) is a method of activation in Windows 10 that doesn't require you. I did some reading and saw that Windows 8 had some sort of issue with VMware where it would try to read the product key from the floppy drive.

When trying to install Windows Server 2012 or 2016 using HP intelligent provisioning i get an error message “Windows cannot read the <ProductKey> setting from the unattended answer file”.

There are a lot of HP articles and suggestions but this is the only solution i was able to find: When the error comes up, click on to exit into the command prompt Launch notepad and open c:autounattend.xml You have to search the string <ProductKey>, there are two. Below the first one under USER insert a new line that contains the string <Key></Key> You don’t have to insert a code, only the tags. Save the file and relaunch manually the command X:WindowsHpssbem.exe again The installation should continue
