Raiders

After owning the Old Gods forever, I've only just recently started playing with tribal pagans. Pretty fun!But aside from the (possibly outdated?) outlines on the CKII wiki, I'm having a hard time getting any definitive info about raiding. Found a couple posts that focus on Viking raiding abilities which seem to be more powerful & flexible than other pagans - are there any comprehensive breakdowns of it anywhere?Right now I'm playing as the Finns and basically all I can figure out is - raise some troops, toggle them to loot, then march to foreign provinces - rather than loot immediately though (even in places with apparently exposed gold) they seem to be trying to siege the holdings. After which I do get a chunk of gold, but it's time-consuming and I'm often confronted with large enemy forces before I acquire much.Am I doing something wrong, or is that just how it works? Links or just general advice would be appreciated.

You need to keep the looter army parked in a province for them to loot. They'll collect some gold every four days. Obviously, they will conduct a siege while doing this whether you intend to actually finish the siege or not simply by virtue of being parked in a hostile province. Once the loot bar is fully depleted, or at least down to the protected level, you can move on if you don't want to keep sieging. If you do finish the siege, you will sack the holding for some bonus gold, a chance to imprison courtiers residing there, and there is a small chance to destroy a building or even the entire holding. The amount of gold you get from sacking is scaled to the tax income of the holding, which is in turn based on holding type and constructed buildings. As such, tribal holdings aren't usually worth the cost of the raiders, but if there are potential hostages there, you can still turn a profit albeit less reliably.

So I am playing a game from the start date 'Bleeding Years' as the Vale of Arryn. My character is past 16 now (king of vale starts as a child) and things are getting pretty boring in Westeros, there is the occasional raiding from the Iron Isles but nothing else. Few peoples are as famous for their raiding and terror as the Vikings. Although Vikings were feared throughout Europe, they did not win all of.

The best places to sack are prince-bishoprics because you won't have to siege a castle first and likewise a county where the holdings go church-city-castle allow to get in two quick sacks without having to wait forever to siege the castle. Also, try to target holding that already have the levied raised so there are less defenders.Note that even vassals will raise troops to defend their holdings from raiders without waiting for the top liege to form an army, but they only do this in their own subrealm. So if there's a direct vassal count, he'll be pretty helpless to your raiders, but a super duke may pop up some thousands to resist you.
