Dear friends,I am seeking a simple answer for a complex question:)In the next 1 to 7 weeks I will be travelling some 2000 km (one way) for some planned hardware upgrade and replacement.I will be replacing an old EVA4400 (primary storage) and an MSA 2012fc (backup) with two MSA 2040fc.We have a c7000 Blade chasis with six blade servers - two BL460c G1 and four BL480c G1. All of them are booting ESX 3.5.0 from SAN.We plan to buy bootable keys for them as we have decided to move away from the san boot (lot's of reasons for that). While we have licensed this infrastructure for vCenter 2.5, I think to catch the moment and upgrade (or more likely, make a fresh install) of vSphere 5.1.0 or 5.5.0 and change the vCenter with 5.1./5.5.However, in both cases - either choosing to use the current versions of VMWare or the latest ones, I wonder can I prepare the bootable usb keys now and just plug them on the internal blades' usb ports when I get in the datacenter? Or I will need to do the install when the keys are plugged in the blades? Free cad programs. In case someone asks - unfortunately I don't have the same or similar setup here in my office to prepare them. Also, this summer I had successfully upgraded all drivers and firmwares of those blade servers so I am sure they will work fine with the usb keys. Now as I write (literally) I am thinking.

I should be able to clone those san boot drives to the usb drives but guess they will fail to boot?It won't be the end of the world if I have to install those ESX keys locally, just prefer to finish the job faster, since last time i Installed an 5.1.0 ESX on a san drive it took around 3 hours to complete and for six servers plus (eventually) a new vcenter. Lol I'll spend Christmas in the datacenter.:)Thanks in advance and have a nice day/evening!P.SIf you could give me some part numbers for those bootable keys it would be nice too:).
